Shadow puppet film to premiere at Shepton Snowdrops Festival
A shadow puppet film created by more than 200 children and care home residents will premiere as part of this year's Shepton Snowdrops Festival.
Titled Miracles of Nature, the project was commissioned by the festival in collaboration with Shepton Mallet-based community interest company Make the Sunshine. It brought together pupils from St Paul's Junior School, St Aldhelm's VA Church Primary School, The Mendip School, and Bowlish Infant School, along with residents from Field House Care Home, to explore nature through shadow puppetry.
Using a specially created 'Snowdrop Theatre', participants delved into the everyday miracles of nature—from the strength of spider webs to the vast mysteries of the deep ocean, the migration of monarch butterflies, and the resilience of snowdrops in winter.
The film will premiere at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Shepton Mallet, at 11am on Saturday 22 February, with screenings throughout the day.
Festival Programme Coordinator Amanda Hirst said: "The Miracles of Nature shadow puppet film is a testament to the talent, imagination and collaborative spirit of Shepton Mallet. It celebrates the beauty of nature and the enduring symbolism of the snowdrop, connecting generations through creativity."
Louise Lappin-Cook, Director of Make the Sunshine, added: "It's been wonderful to see the creativity of so many young people and adults. This film is a beautiful reflection of the awe and wonder found in the many miracles of nature."
The Shepton Snowdrops Festival runs on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February, with a full programme of workshops, talks, and walks. More information is available at www.sheptonsnowdrops.org.uk.
