Shepton Mallet residents and commuters are set to face some changes to their usual travel routes next month, as essential maintenance works on the A37 are announced.

This vital roadwork will bring about a temporary road closure, impacting journeys and requiring some forward planning.

The section of the A37 from Cannard's Grave roundabout to Whitstone corner is set for resurfacing, aimed at addressing signs of wear and tear on the road surface.

The maintenance work is scheduled to take place during the evening hours, from 6.30pm to 11.30pm, starting Monday, 12 February, and concluding on Friday, 23 February. A road closure will be enforced during these hours to facilitate the works.

Motorists will be required to follow a diversion route while the closure is in place. Further details on the diversion and other travel information can be found on the Somerset Council website under Roadworks and travel information.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council's Lead Member for Transport and Digital said: "The road here is showing signs of wear and tear, and this is an essential part of our programme maintenance schedule.

"In order to minimise disruption this will be done out of peak hours during the evening.

"We appreciate this will have an impact on local traffic and we would advise people to plan ahead if they use this route regularly. If possible, the team will do everything they can to complete this scheme ahead of schedule. "
