Road closures in Shepton Mallet ahead of carnival: What Tadley Acres and Cannards Grave Road residents need to know

Carnival preparations in Shepton Mallet bring temporary road closures, with stewards on hand to help residents navigate access routes.

Residents near Tadley Acres, Whitstone Road, and Cannards Grave Road in Shepton Mallet should prepare for temporary road closures this week as final preparations are underway for Carnival 2024.

Road closures and diversions

  • Monday 11 November, 9pm – midnight
  • Whitstone Road will close to allow carnival carts to hitch up on arrival. Although signs indicate a closure until 6am, the road is expected to reopen by midnight unless extra time is required.
  • Monday 11 November, 9pm – Wednesday 13 November, 11:59pm
  • Cannards Grave Road will remain fully closed until late Wednesday night to accommodate parked carnival carts. Due to the size of the carts, the road will not be passable for other vehicles. Security staff will be on site, and access permits have been provided to residents on Field View, Lower Cannards Grave Road, and the surrounding care homes.
  • Little Brook Lane junction with Cannards Grave Road
  • This junction will be closed from Monday night until Wednesday, 13 November. Diversion signs will be in place to guide Tadley Acres residents to the Hobbs Road exit via Whitstone Road.

Carnival night closures (Wednesday, 13 November)

  • On the night of the carnival, Whitstone Road will close from 7:30pm. Residents of Tadley Acres can still enter via Hobbs Road and Whitstone Rise, with stewards on hand to assist. After 7:30pm, southbound exits will remain open, directing traffic to Sheep Roundabout for routes towards Bristol, Bath, Frome, Yeovil, Glastonbury, and Wells.
