The latest numbers from Somerset show that 5378 have been repaired since the beginning of April. (to July)
It works out at around 60 potholes filled in every working day of every month.
But the team behind mending the holes in the roads may be facing a HUGE problem. Although most potholes are created in cold conditions, making summer the best time to have any potholes repaired and apply surface dressing and pavement waterproofing as necessary. This summer the highways teams have been busy ready to cool down the roads with dust. So they may not have had the staff available to fill up the holes.

However the county is not in the top five of pothole complaints; topping that list is Cumbria, followed by Hampshire and then Surrey. Those figures are from 2021, with the fourth county Devon with 384 potholes logged and then Gloucestershire with 281.
In the summer to autumn of 2021 the RAC deal with the largest ever proportion of pothole-related call-outs in any third quarter since 2006.
RAC patrols attended 1,810 breakdowns for broken suspension springs, distorted wheels and damaged shock absorbers which represented 1.2% of all its call-outs1 over the three-month period.
July to September, along with October to December, are normally the quietest quarters for pothole-related breakdowns, both in terms of pure numbers and in terms of the proportion they represent of all RAC breakdowns.
