A pop-up restaurant event in East Pennard may not be able to go ahead – because it could end up being too noisy.

Pippa Chambers runs Pennard Hill Farm near Shepton Mallet, which offers boutique camping, weddings and holiday cottages within easy reach of the Glastonbury Festival site.

Ms Chambers has applied to run a pop-up restaurant and bar for up to 150 people over the last weekend in June, staged across two of her family's fields.

But Mendip District Council will now have the final say at a public hearing after a formal objection was lodged concerning noise levels at the site.

Pennard Hill Farm lies on Stickleball Lane in East Pennard, just south of the Worthy Farm site, and has been run by the Chambers family since 2009.

Miss Chambers applied for a temporary event notice (TEN) to hold the pop-up restaurant and bar on the evenings of Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, as well as the whole of Sunday, June 27.

Specifically, she requested a licence to serve alcohol and provide entertainment from 6pm until midnight on the Friday and Saturday, and from noon until 11pm on the Sunday.

In her TEN application, she stated the event would be staged across two separate fields, with up to 150 guests and up to 20 staff, bringing the maximum on-site at any one time to 170 people.

Sally Webster, the council's environmental health officer, lodged a formal objection to the application on May 18, citing a lack of detail about how noise emanating from the site would be controlled.

She said: "The applicant has not provided any information in relation to noise management of the live entertainment until 11pm, and there is already a significant impact on the locality from events already taking place."

The council recently granted permission – after nearly a week's deliberation – for a two-day concert on the Glastonbury Festival site at some point in September, despite concerns about the impact of the 50,000-strong event on local residents.

The council's licensing sub-committee will debate the matter in full on Thursday (May 27) from 10am. The meeting will be live-streamed via the council's website.
