The police are investigating the cause of a fire at the Bell Hotel in Shepton Mallet early this morning (June 5).

Police were alerted to a fire at the Bell Hotel in Shepton Mallet High Street by Devon and Somerset Fire Service at about 5.30am today.

The fire started at the back of the premises which has suffered exterior damage.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that two occupants were able to leave the premises safely.

Three fire crews attended and used a hose reel jet to prevent the fire spreading. Fire damage was caused to an outdoor seating area and the window of the downstairs toilet was smashed by the heat.
