Plans for Shepton Mallet soft play centre scrapped

Plans to turn a former Honda showroom in Shepton Mallet into a new soft play centre have been pulled before councillors could rule on them.
Sarah Palmer lodged the application with Somerset Council in June, aiming to open what she described as an "inclusive, engaging and health-conscious space for children and families" at the Haskin Retail Centre.
The scheme, backed by Shepton Mallet Town Council, promised a "distinctive play experience" not available elsewhere locally and was expected to create the equivalent of six full-time jobs.
But before a decision could be made, Miss Palmer told the council she was withdrawing the bid – bringing the project to a halt.
The former Honda showroom and garage shut in February and was put up for rent soon afterwards. With the application now dropped, its future remains unclear.
