The Crown Inn at Pilton is getting a new lease of life. Mendip planners this week granted permission for internal and external alterations and improvements to the Grade II-listed 17th century pub.

Among the changes which have been given the go-ahead are the conversion of the old piggery building to a kitchen, and the creation of a "green roof" planted with wild flowers, on the east-side of the building.

The officer's report said: "In the main the external works are to repair the existing building and bring it back to its former glory.

"All the alterations proposed are considered to enhance the building and therefore have a

positive impact on this part of the conservation area.

"The internal and external works will remove previous unfortunate works that have taken place over the years and will preserve where possible the features of character and importance."

The pub has been closed since October for work to begin on the refurbishment.

Other planning decisions taken by Mendip this week include:

2022/0187/HSE | 6 Kyte Road Shepton Mallet

Permission has been granted for a single-storey side extension. 2021/2917/FUL | 1-3 The Maltings The Batch Shepton Mallet

The applicant is allowed to build a two-storey extension and put up a glazed canopy.
