The Shepton Mallet Community Fridge is almost ready to open.

Last week the Shepton Mallet Men's Shed worked tirelessly in the pouring rain to construct the building which will house the town's new community fridge, freezer and larder at its site at Haskins.

Plans for the Community Fridge first began to take shape back in March, and over the last few months the team of volunteers behind the project have been working and fundraising to bring the project to fruition.

Thanks to the efforts of the team, and the generosity of local residents and businesses, including Shepton Vets, Timbersource in Doulting and Toolstation in Shepton Mallet, and the Shepton Mallet Men's Shed who built the structure, the fridge is now almost ready to open to the public.

The opening will take place at 1pm on September 10, followed by celebratory snacks at the Art Bank, with the support of Aurora KusinaThe Cheeky Bean, Denela's Bakery and Sweet 11.

The primary purpose of the Community Fridge will be to reduce food waste.

If you could spare a couple of hours a week to volunteer at the Community Fridge, please drop them a message via the Facebook page.
