Work is underway on a new shelter in Shepton Mallet's Collett Park, with the steel frame now installed.

The project aims to create a versatile outdoor space for community use, with completion expected in early March.

Shepton Mallet Town Council has confirmed that the shelter will serve as a protected meeting area for groups such as the Health Connect Team, health visitors, and other support agencies. It will also provide a safe social space for young people aged 14-25, following feedback from local residents.

In addition to supporting structured community services, the shelter is designed for informal gatherings and social meet-ups, helping to enhance the park's functionality.

The structure has been designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring a comfortable space for all visitors, including wheelchair users, carers, and companions.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday 2 March at 10:30am.
