NASS festival is back from July 7-10, and organisers have pledged to reduce the impact on people living nearby.

NASS is a four-day festival of music, street art, skate and BMX which attracts tens of thousands of people, the majority aged between 16 and 21. In previous years there have been complaints about noise, behaviour of revellers leaving the site and traffic chaos which even resulted in the Mendip School being forced to close for a day.

The last NASS festival was held in 2019, with the 2020 and 2021 events cancelled due to Covid.

In a letter to local residents organisers have laid out plans for new measures to lessen the impact on those living locally.

According to the letter, measures include:

A new traffic management system will be in place during the show arrival and exit which will spread out arrivals over Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8 with separate tickets. Multiple gates into the site will be used to reduce pressure on the road network. Traffic management nd security staff will be deployed in the local area during arrival and departure days to ensure a smooth traffic operarion with minimal disturbance.

There will be Thursday and Friday entry tickets. Numbers of each ticket have been restricted per day in order to spread out peak traffic patterns and reduce pressure on the local road network.

Bagborough Lane will be closed for the even period and access permitted only for residents and businesses.

There will be no GA camping adjacent to the Mendip School area and there will be additional control measures on potential routes taken by customers and staff over the event duration.

No re-entry to the festival. Festival goers will not be allowed to leave and re-enter the festival site in the interests of minimising local disruption.

Surrounding areas have been assessed for sensitivity. Security and/or stewarding presence will be deployed for priority areas, particularly Bagborough Lane, Evercreech, Prestleigh and Shepton Mallet, the location of which to be determined by local authority and resident consultation.
