More movies, music and mayhem as Shepton’s Amulet pop-up gets extended

Shepton Mallet's Amulet pop-up is sticking around for another month, with organisers adding a full programme of films, live music and family-friendly events through September.
It follows two busy months of activity at the former theatre building, which is now at the centre of a community campaign to buy the site and bring it back into long-term use. The temporary venue was due to wrap up at the end of August, but thanks to local support and strong ticket sales, the team is pressing on.
The new line-up includes everything from cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and A Clockwork Orange, to a screening of Hot Fuzz, filmed just down the road in Wells. There's also live music from Banco de Gaia and Da Fuchaman, plus a family-friendly rave and Saturday afternoon kids' films including Wreck-It Ralph and The Incredibles.
A jazz and tacos afternoon is set to take over the Market Place on 21 September, and Shepton Mallet u3a will be running a weekend showcase of their activities inside the Amulet.
All of this is aimed at boosting the Amulet community share offer, which runs until 31 October. Organisers are hoping to raise enough funds to buy the building and turn it into a permanent space for events, arts and community groups.
Tickets for most events are priced between £1 and £5, and all proceeds go back into the campaign. Listings and booking details are available at buytheamulet.org.uk/events.
