The Mendip School in Prestleigh, has recently undergone an Ofsted inspection and maintained its 'good' status.

However, the inspection hints at the potential for an 'outstanding' rating in future graded inspections.

According to the inspection report, "Pupils follow an ambitious curriculum and achieve well," underpinned by strong pastoral support and a curriculum tailored to their individual needs. The school has been commended for its approach to education, with pupils demonstrating attentiveness and pride in their work. Particularly noteworthy is the early years teaching, which has been described as developing "early communication skills and physical development superbly."

The inspectors noted, "The curriculum prepares pupils for their future lives as independent citizens exceptionally well." Older pupils engage confidently in discussions about various topics, contributing to their holistic development. The school's emphasis on extra-curricular activities and practical learning experiences, such as working in the community café, has been highlighted as a key strength.

Leadership at the school has been recognised for its deep understanding and effective implementation of educational strategies. "Leaders are highly knowledgeable...They use this information astutely to ensure that the curriculum pupils receive is ever improving," the report states. The school's swift response in assessing and catering to pupils' special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) has also been praised.

In terms of literacy, "The youngest pupils benefit from a language-rich environment," and the emphasis on phonics and reading is strong across all age groups. The personal, social, health, and economic education curriculum is a fundamental aspect of the school's ethos, focusing on building strong relationships and respectful communication.

Students at The Mendip School are successful in a range of academic and life-skills qualifications, with effective career education ensuring smooth transitions to further education or employment. The school is also proactive in enhancing its curriculum and sixth-form provision.

The report concludes, "The school monitors pupils' attendance and behaviour very closely," with most pupils attending exceptionally well. The trust remains focused on strengthening relationships with parents and the community, especially during times of curriculum enhancement.
