A man was trapped in his car following a crash on the Old Wells Road going out of Shepton Mallet earlier today (January 15).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call at around 12.15pm from South West Ambulance Service reporting a crash on Old Wells Road.

Two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet were immediately mobilised by Fire Control.

On arrival, the incident commander confirmed a single vehicle accident with one male trapped in the car.

Crews got to work to stabilise the vehicle and set up hydraulic cutting equipment, while paramedics assessed the casualty.

The crew removed the door of the car to allow better access to the casualty before assisting paramedics with extrication.
