Pilton is mourning the loss of Philip Eavis, who passed away on 14th June 2024 at the age of 85.

Philip, alongside his wife Gill, ran the family firm Living Homes, and played an integral role in local governance and education. He leaves behind his wife Gill, their four children—Sarah, Paul, Joe, and Ben—and his grandchildren Jack, Thom, Hannah, Ollie, Lara, Jemima, Izzy, Leo, and Olivia.

Philip was a pillar of the Pilton community, serving as chairman of Somerset's Education Committee, chairman of Collaboration Amongst Small Schools (C.A.S.S.), chairman of Whitstone Community School Governors, governor of Strode College, and chairman of the Peat Board. His dedication to public service and education has left an indelible mark on the area.

Living Homes, the family business, began as a mail order catalogue in 1965, initially known as Selective Buyers and later rebranded to Consumer Buyers in 1968. The transition to retail began with the opening of the first Living Homes store in Kingsmead Square, Bath, in 1970. This was followed by a store in Weston-super-Mare in 1972 and the pivotal opening of the Street store in 1977 after renovating a derelict ex-school building.

The Street store's success led to further expansion, including showrooms for furniture, bedrooms, electrical, and flooring products. In the early 2000s, Living Homes returned to Weston-super-Mare, providing a modern, fully accessible shopping experience with ample parking.

Philip's life in Pilton, marked by his commitment to public service and his business acumen, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy continues to inspire the community.
