In a striking display of courage during his recent Glastonbury Festival performance, Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi openly battled worsening Tourettes symptoms, even as he paced the Pyramid stage in noticeable pain and discomfort.
The singer candidly confessed to his mental health struggles before the vast crowd, apologising for what he perceived as a disappointing show.
Yet, far from being a 'sh*t show', his display of bravery and honesty stirred an outpouring of support from the crowd. Their spontaneous act of singing along and cheering him on painted a heartfelt spectacle of solidarity.
Meanwhile, back in Shepton Mallet, Harry Banks, an 11-year-old with severe Tourettes that confines him to a wheelchair and prevents him from attending school, watched Capaldi's struggle unfold on TV.
Pacing the Pyramid stage in obvious pain and discomfort, the Scottish singer confessed to the crowd of thousands, he'd been struggling with mental health and apologised for what he felt was a 'sh*t show' of a performance.
In reality, the crowd were in awe of Lewis's bravery and honesty and showed their support by singing his song for him and cheering him on.
As Harry and his mum watched live on the TV, Harry noticed what was happening and explained "I think he's having a tic attack mum, imagine that in front of so many people! It's bad enough on a bus or in a shop!"
A tic attack is when a sufferer has multiple vocal, breathing or motor tics at once. It's uncontrollable, exhausting and embarrassing, and it can be scary and painful.
Harry, whose severe Tourettes symptoms, have left him needing a wheelchair and unable to attend school, was stunned that Lewis carried on and finished his set. "He is amazing!" he said.
Harry's mum, Heather said it was "both heartbreaking and heartwarming to watch. It was hard to watch him struggle, but the fact that every single person was forgiving and supportive, gives me hope that Harry will grow up. in a world where people understand neurodiversity and mental health. It has also raised a lot more awareness of Tourettes Syndrome, which is a good thing."
Today, Lewis Capaldi announced he will take a break from touring "for the foreseeable future," saying he is "still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's."
Harry is fundraising for private therapy, a new device which may be available soon for TS sufferers, and donations to his favourite charity Tourettes Action through his GoFundMe page.
