John Bishton of Bruton bags an MBE for stellar community service

John Bishton, a dedicated resident of Bruton in Somerset, has been awarded an MBE for his outstanding service to the community.
The honour was bestowed during a ceremony at the Bishop's Palace in Wells, presided over by the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq.
John Bishton's contributions to Bruton have been manifold and significant. As a member of The Bruton Trust, a civic society, he has played a crucial role in preserving the unique character of this historic small town. His efforts include collaborating with English Heritage to enhance the Grade 1 listed almshouses, establishing an attractive riverside walk, and sensitively managing a brownfield site housing development within the town centre.
In addition to his work with The Bruton Trust, Mr. Bishton has also chaired the Fabric Committee of the town's 15th-century church, where he has been instrumental in maintaining and preserving this historic building. His community involvement extends to serving as a voluntary driver for the Red Cross and organising public lectures and guided tours, fostering local participation and awareness of the environment.
The Lord-Lieutenant, during the ceremony, commended Mr. Bishton for his "enduring commitment to Somerset wellbeing," highlighting his role in scripting a story of progress, compassion, and shared success in Bruton.
John Bishton's MBE is a testament to his tireless voluntary work and the significant difference he has made in the lives of Bruton's residents. His dedication to the town's welfare and heritage serves as an inspiring example of community service.
