Making career moves, or just poking your nose in to see who's hiring? Either way, there's a fine spread this week in and around Shepton, from respectable shifts in Castle Cary to full-on engineering at the quarry. Whether you want to fix things, clean things, or run the show entirely, there's probably something with your name on it — especially if your name is "Flexible, Team Player, Must Like Working Weekends".

Here's what's up for grabs:

The Motor vehicle technician role at Bruton Motor Services suits someone who knows their coil springs from their crankshaft. It's a full-time post for a Level 3-qualified technician and MOT tester, with weekday hours and overtime on offer. You'll need five years' workshop experience and a tolerance for customers who swear their clutches broke "by themselves".

At the quarry end of the maintenance spectrum, a Mechanical maintenance team leader is wanted in Shepton to wrangle fitters and respond to breakdowns. There's also a Maintenance supervisor role doing the same thing, only with a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern and a rumoured salary of £54k plus bonuses. Bring your toolbox and your leadership skills.

This Cleaner job in Bruton needs someone to dust, mop, refill loo roll and deal with other people's questionable microwave habits. It's with First Response Group, and they're happy to train you up if your previous cleaning experience is limited to wiping crumbs off your desk.

If you're better with buttons than bleach, the Machine operator gig at a Castle Cary pet food factory might appeal. You'll work rotating shifts operating the bag-packing machine, carrying out regular cleaning (yes, again), and making sure the kibble flows smoothly.

C&W Transport is looking for delivery drivers with clean licences and a high tolerance for sat-navs that insist the farm track is the best route. It's immediate start, weekly pay, and there's even an £800 joining bonus.

In care, the Care support worker post with Lifeways is based in Shepton, supporting eight adults with learning disabilities. It's hands-on, includes personal care, cooking and activities, and pays around £13.30 per hour. If you can handle big feelings and small wins, it's decent, meaningful work.

Field House is after a Night team leader to lead the overnight care staff. You'll need qualifications, experience, and enough stamina to handle a 21:30 to 07:30 shift without resorting to intravenous coffee.

Meanwhile in Castle Cary, Somerset Care needs a Cook who can rustle up meals that meet both dietary needs and fussy palates. There's training, enhanced pay and a kitchen to call your own. Bonus points if you can do sponge pudding and not burn the custard.

Got a knack for messaging and media? A Marketing and communications officer is needed to be the voice of a local council, running campaigns, managing press, and keeping the website coherent. Adobe skills are a plus, as is the patience of a saint.

And if your ambitions lean more toward operations and public-facing polish, the Visitor attraction operations manager job might be your jam. It's based at a county estate, overseeing guest experiences and team performance. Think Downton Abbey, but with spreadsheets and rota planning.

That's the lot for this week. Whether you're career climbing or just window shopping, have a gander at the Shepton Mallet jobs board for the full set. Same time next week, with or without your CV.
