Whether you're looking to swap the office for overalls, or just fancy a job that throws in a staff discount and some fresh air, here's the week's local job line-up. No corporate waffle, just actual work you could be doing before the month's out.

If you like your mornings early and your bread rolls warm, Customer Team Member at the Co-op in Evercreech is £12.60 an hour for 18 hours a week, plus overtime. You'll be on the tills, restocking, working the in-store bakery and generally making sure no-one leaves without their pint of milk. Benefits include 31 days' holiday, a 30% store discount and virtual healthcare.

Got the tools and the temperament for big kit? The Maintenance Supervisor job in Shepton pays up to £58k, permanent nights, on a 5-on-5-off / 4-on-4-off rota. You'll be diagnosing and fixing production machinery, managing contractors and keeping things safe and efficient. Pension contributions up to 11%, bonus potential and plenty of overtime on offer.

Holcim is after a General Operative to muck in on their sustainable construction materials site in Shepton. You'll be part of a team building everything from roads to railways — expect hands-on work, safety kit and a lot of dust.

If you're more into machines than mortar, Mars needs a Packing Operator at its Castle Cary site. You'll run packing lines on a rotating shift pattern, keep things clean, and help spot improvements. Competitive pay, bonus, and access to Mars University (yes, that's a thing).

Same brand, different role — the Process Operator post in Evercreech is £28–31.5k including shift allowance. You'll keep raw materials moving, operate machinery, log production data and keep quality standards tight. Bonus, private medical insurance and free parking included.

For the culinary crowd, there's a Head Chef role at a new Bruton restaurant and bar, paying £45k. You'll have full kitchen control, a focus on local produce, and the chance to shape a new menu from scratch.

If you're a plumber eyeing a new skillset, the Plumber (Full Training into Gas) job in Castle Cary offers £35–42k, on-site work, no travel and full heating/gas training in a high-end commercial/domestic environment.

Prefer fine dining to fitting pipes? A Chef de Partie slot at a countryside estate near Castle Cary pays £32–38k, working with on-site-grown ingredients in a classic French kitchen.

Back to engineering — the Lead Maintenance Fitter / Engineer role in Shepton is £47,250, day shifts, with career progression, training and a paid one-hour lunch. You'll be workshop-based, keeping plant and machinery in good nick without overnight stays.

And finally, if you prefer pruning to production lines, a Part-Time Gardener is wanted two to three days a week on a private Bruton estate. £25–40 per hour, negotiable, for someone with top horticultural skills, plant knowledge and a love for keeping borders, lawns and orchards in top shape.

That's the lot for this week. Whether you're job-hunting in hi-vis, chef whites or gardening gloves, you'll find more live roles on the Shepton Mallet Nub News jobs board.
