Warehouse Operative - Ditcheat
The Barber family have been farming and cheesemaking since the early 1800s.
Originally the milk was sold locally and the cheese was made for the family and workers at Maryland Farm.
Although time has moved on, the focus is still on producing West Country Farmhouse Cheddar. While much of the tradition has been preserved, Barber's have embraced the use of modern technology, where possible, to improve the cheese-making process and quality of our finished cheeses.
The Warehouse Operative will be a central point for receiving all departments incoming goods.
Key responsibilities/accountabilities:
- To receive all incoming goods vehicles. Offload into central goods in store where appropriate or direct bulk receipts to their relevant location.
- To check all incoming vehicles for cleanliness to company procedures and report on relevant systems.
- To offload all incoming goods, check goods against paperwork, book into system(s) and where not automated inform purchaser of item receipt. Relay receipt of all Food Critical items to the technical department for QA inspection before releasing to end user.
- When booked onto company systems, where appropriate issue relevant codes and lot numbers by way of system labelling.
- Store incoming goods in the goods the relevant receipt area, ensuring all goods are with the purchaser within two working days by means of system notification and/or verbal communication. Please note there are times when it is the post holder's responsibility to deliver item(s) direct to original purchaser.
- Liaise at all times with all other departments with regard to urgent delivery requirements and the need for quick communication when such items are received into stock.
- Ensure Good housekeeping is in place at all times.
- Ensure safe working practices and health and safety guidelines are always followed and internal policies are adhered to.
- Carry out any other work or task determined to be within your level of competence, to meet the needs of the business.
Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:
- Forklift Licence (Counter Balance)
- Basic food hygiene
- 29 days' holiday a year (including English bank holidays)

Raw Materials Manager - Shepton Mallet
This is a role that will involve working for one of Somerset's largest food manufacturers. The successful Raw Materials Manger will be involved in routine tasks such as supplier and specification approval, risk assessments and investigative audits. Candidates must have proven technical/raw material management experience within the food manufacturing industry. The role of the Raw Materials Manager will involve:- Supporting customer audits on site - factory tours, traceability exercises and documentation review
- Technical responsibility for all raw materials delivered to site
- Managing all raw material and supplier approval documentation, ensuring it is held on file and up to date
- Reviewing supplier BRC status or Self-Audit questionnaire to determine approval of new supplier to site
- To determine raw material risk rating and implementation of any key controls required
- Maintaining Food Integrity risk assessment
- Assessment and approval of printed packaging deliveries
- Managing and co-ordinating packaging trials through the factory, where necessary
- To complete annual supplier performance review and take necessary action regarding poor performance.
- To investigate and raise raw material complaints and issues with suppliers
- Trending of supplier complaints to identify ongoing/repeat issues
- Occasional auditing of key raw material suppliers
- Conducting site internal audits as required, taking appropriate action where non-conformances are identified
- Attendance to NPD meeting
- Providing weekend cover via Technical "On Call" rota
- Food or science related degree or equivalent, or two years' experience working in technical or raw material management
- Certified HACCP qualification
- Experience of working in chilled food manufacturing and high care environments
- Long service award - five years' service and upwards
