Shepton charity calls on singers to help fund eating disorder support
By Laura Linham 2nd Nov 2026
A Shepton Mallet eating disorder charity is asking choirs, schools, pubs and workplaces to turn their Christmas singing into funding for people needing support. SWEDA's appeal invites groups to organise performances between 1 and 8 December, when donations through its Big Give campaign could be doubled.
The charity, based at Harvest Court on Park Road, is encouraging everything from concerts and carol singing to karaoke nights and community singalongs. Pubs and cafés are also being asked to host events, with organisers choosing a venue and encouraging their audiences to donate.
Money raised will help fund counselling, outreach and recovery support for people affected by eating disorders. SWEDA says a £20 donation matched through the campaign would provide £40 towards its work.
To qualify for matching, donations must be made directly through SWEDA's campaign on the Big Give website during the fundraising week. The charity is asking participants to make sure their contributions go through that route.
There will also be opportunities to take part online through Facebook and Instagram during the same week. Further details will be shared on the charity's social media channels.
Groups planning a performance can find information and contact details on the Sing for SWEDA campaign page. The charity says it will help promote participating events.
