If you heard sirens yesterday (December 8) at around 5pm this is why.

They were called out to a road crash in Ditcheat at 4.57 pm.

Two appliances one from Castle Cary and Shepton Mallet were mobilised following a report to the Fire Service Control Room of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles.

One casualty was trapped in the crash but luckily paramedics walked the casualty out with the assistance of one of the fire crews.

Another of the casualties was able to get out by themselves.

Crews used a trauma pack, small tools and a stabilisation lift. By 7pm all those involved were safe and the incident declared closed.

Meantime today (December 9) Devon and Somerset Fire Service will be holding a virtual event to talk about the strategy for the fire service in the coming years.
