Glastonbury 2025 traffic hailed 'best ever' by council

This year's Glastonbury Festival saw the "most successful" traffic operation ever, according to a glowing report from Somerset Council.

Despite more than 210,000 revellers descending on Worthy Farm, traffic was kept moving and disruption was kept to a minimum — with fewer staff and lower costs than previous years.

A report by the council's Glastonbury Scrutiny Committee praises the "professionalism and collaboration" between traffic officers, organisers and contractors. Chair of Pilton Parish Council, Kelly Sumner, said local feedback had been "overwhelmingly supportive", with villagers impressed by how smoothly things ran.

That's a far cry from the chaos of 2016, when some festival-goers were trapped in their cars for up to 12 hours.

This year's plan included ditching a shuttle bus service and reducing staffing levels — moves which saved the council £6,400, or 23%, compared to 2024. Crucially, officials say the changes didn't affect their ability to manage the event.

The report is due to be debated by councillors on Monday.
