Shepton Mallet residents are being offered a valuable opportunity to acquire life-saving skills through a free defibrillator training session scheduled for Tuesday, 9th January 2024.

This crucial training session is organised by the South Western Ambulance Service and is set to take place at 18:00 in the Council Chamber at Shape on Cannards Grave Road.

The primary goal of this initiative is to empower the local community with the knowledge and skills required to use a defibrillator effectively, especially during critical moments.

Medical experts emphasise the importance of quick intervention, as the chance of survival for a victim decreases by 7 to 10 per cent with every minute that defibrillation is delayed. In cases where a heart stops beating, brain damage can begin to occur within just four to five minutes without immediate intervention.

Shepton Mallet is equipped with three publicly accessible defibrillators strategically placed for use by any member of the public during emergencies. The upcoming training session offers attendees hands-on experience and the confidence to operate these life-saving devices effectively.

This initiative seeks to ensure that more community members are capable and confident in using defibrillators during crucial moments when every second counts.

All individuals interested in participating in this potentially life-saving training are encouraged to complete the registration form, ensuring that they are well-prepared to make a difference when it matters most.
