A five-year-old girl from Shepton Mallet paid her respects to the Queen in London, dressed at Paddington Bear.

Petal is a Year 1 pupil at Shepton Mallet Community Infants' School, and she and her family spent the weekend in the capital to lay flowers for the Queen and watch the funeral procession.

Petal mum, Krystle Giles, said: "On Sunday we spent the day queuing to put flowers down and pay our respects. We wanted to see the Queen, but the queue was 16 hours long, so we spent most of the day looking around at all the flowers that had been laid, and visiting sites like Buckingham Palace and Big Ben. The atmosphere was really unbelievable.

"On Monday it was so busy everywhere, with people trying to get good spots to see the procession. We couldn't see much from where we were, but we felt lucky to see anything at all.

"Our nephew was going to be walking with the coffin in Windsor so we called him and asked if it would be worth us going there. He advised us to go to the 'Long Walk' so we did that and that there in plenty of time to see everything so it was definitely worth the trip.

"Petal had learned a lot about the Queen because of the Jubilee, and I felt that we needed to go an be a part of history. This is something she can remember and talk about to her children and grandchildren. My eldest daughter, Angel, is joining the military as a paramedic and she felt she really wanted to be there too.

"It was a really special thing for us to do as a whole family. Even queuing for two hours to put down flowers was worth it. It was an unforgettable event that will remain with us always."
