Firefighters from Shepton Mallet put out a motorhome that had caught fire in Pylle this morning (September 21).

At 9.15am today, three fire appliances from Shepton Mallet, Castle Cary and Glastonbury were initially mobilised following a call from the occupant of a motorhome on the A37 Fosse Way in Pylle which had caught fire.

At the time of the call, concern was raised due to the possible risk and involvement of gas cylinders and the fire service confirmed the occupants were able to evacuate the area safely.

However, shortly after arrival of the first crew from Shepton Mallet they were able to confirm the fire was contained to the rear of a small fridge inside the motorhome and extinguished it using a hose reel jet, before damping down the area while checking for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.

This incident was brought under control by 10am. As crews were able to locate and extinguish the fire so quickly, the third appliance from Glastonbury was returned en-route as their services were no longer required.

Damage was minimal and confined to the fridge only, and once the area was made safe, duty of care was left with the owner.
