Artist Fiona Campbell is set to showcase her latest works this September as part of Somerset Open Studios.

The exhibition will be hosted in her historic Laundry Cottage studio and wildlife garden in Cranmore, near Shepton Mallet. The range of pieces on display will include sculptures, drawings, and sketchbooks.

Campbell's works are particularly notable for their commitment to sustainability. She uses reclaimed, discarded, and found materials to craft her pieces. This approach stems from her philosophy of 'make-do-and-mend,' which often incorporates materials she has collected over years from nature walks, beaches, and scrapyard.

Earlier this year, Campbell undertook a residency and solo exhibition at Create@#8 in Shepton Mallet. She also received an Arts Council England 'Developing Your Creative Practice' Award, which has allowed her to delve further into artistic experimentation, a crucial part of her practice.

Damon Bridge of the RSPB has suggested that the arts can play a powerful role in highlighting the vulnerability of the planet, a sentiment that Campbell's work embodies. Using labour-intensive techniques such as hand-stitching, visible repair, and hand-made eco-dyes, her work serves both as a celebration of biodiversity and an urgent call for the preservation and protection of vital ecosystems.

Campbell's art is frequently exhibited in unique and unusual spaces, ranging from cathedrals to decommissioned prisons and empty buildings. Her works include a wide array of materials, from copper and steel to plant fibres and eco-dyes. She also incorporates global influences, with materials sourced from various parts of the world, including East Africa, India, and Tibet. These international elements serve to highlight the global nature of sustainability challenges.

Somerset Open Studios offers a unique opportunity for the public to enter often-private artistic spaces. Campbell's exhibition will be held at Laundry Cottage, 13 Cooks Lane, Cranmore. Directions to the event will be indicated by yellow signs.
