Final stage of £90,000 Bruton gas upgrade set to begin: Road closures and what you need to know

By Laura Linham 25th Sep 2023

The final chapter in a gas pipe upgrade scheme is set to begin in Bruton, bringing the £90,000 investment project to a close.

Wales & West Utilities, in collaboration with Somerset County Council and Bruton Town Council, has confirmed that work on Coombe Street, at its junction with Higher Backway, will commence between 2 and 6 October.

Local motorists are advised to prepare for road closures and to allocate additional travel time during these dates. The project, which has been underway since July, aims to enhance the safety and reliability of the gas network serving the Bruton area.

Simon Lee, the manager overseeing this gas pipe upgrade, emphasised the significance of the work, stating, "While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area." He continued, "This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future."

Residents with queries or concerns are encouraged to contact Wales & West Utilities' Customer Service Team on freephone 0800 912 2999.
