Evening closures for Station Road in Bruton as resurfacing begins next month
Essential roadworks set to begin mid-October; evening road closures scheduled to minimise disruption
Bruton's Station Road, a section of the B3081, is set to undergo a much-needed resurfacing as part of Somerset Council's ongoing maintenance programme for the town. The work is slated to commence in the third week of October and residents are advised to prepare for temporary road closures.
The initial preparatory work is scheduled to start on Monday, 16 October, running through to Friday, 20 October. During this period, the road will be closed each evening between 6.30pm and 11.30pm to allow for the work to be completed. The project represents the final instalment in a comprehensive maintenance programme aimed at rejuvenating the local infrastructure.
Following the preparatory stage, the road will again be closed during the same evening hours from Monday, 23 October, for a span of three days to finish the resurfacing work. To minimise inconvenience, the road will remain open 24/7 on weekends and outside of the closure hours on weekdays.
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council's Executive Lead Member for Transport and Digital, expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding. He said: "Thanks to everyone in and around Bruton for their patience. This section of resurfacing was originally due to be carried during the summer but we had some challenges which impacted on that earlier scheme, so a decision was taken to stagger the remainder of the work and return at a later date."
He added: "We hope that doing this essential resurfacing under an evening closure on weekdays reduces disruption on the network, but please ensure you plan ahead."
Access to properties and businesses in the immediate vicinity will be maintained during the course of the work. A diversion route will be put in place, and details will be made available closer to the commencement of the project on Somerset Council's website.
