Eight emergency vehicles from the fire and rescue service were called to an industrial property in Cranmore last night (November 15).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public at around 10pm reporting a fire in an industrial property in the village, though the exact location has not been confirmed at the time of publishing.

Three fire appliances from Shepton Mallet and Frome, and an aerial ladder platform from Yeovil were immediately mobilised by Fire Control.

On arrival, the incident commander confirmed that there was a fire in a conveyor belt machine and got to work to isolate the large electrical supply, so that fire fighting could commence.

He also requested an additional two fire appliances which came from Frome and Wells, a water carrier from Yeovil and a command support vehicle from Street was also mobilised.

Crews confirmed there was a fire in an eight-metre section of conveyor machinery, and they tackled the blaze with compressed air foam, breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

The fire was extinguished around an hour after the initial call, and the cause of the incident is being investigated by the industrial property's owners.
