Re-enactment groups and owners of vintage vehicles from the 1930s-1940s are being encouraged to join in a three day extravaganza, due to be held at The East Somerset Railway over the Bank Holiday, Saturday to Monday, 27-29 August 2022. The Way We Were is held annually and this year promises to offer a fab day out for all the family.
Living History Groups from the 1940s will show visitors the way British people lived during World War II and the middle decades of the 20th century. Children can make authentic crafts from the war years and they can try out giant Snakes and Ladders, quoits and hoopla. Punch and Judy will be entertaining youngsters throughout each day.
For authentic atmosphere The Grey Dogs Jazz Band will be performing their laid back sound on Saturday and Sunday while Ruby Jazz will bring some period glamour to Cranmore on Bank Holiday Monday. A stalwart of The Way We Were for many years, Dickie Lines, will be our MC for the whole weekend, singing well known classic comedy songs and ballads from the war years on our station platform.
The Way We Were takes place against the backdrop of a heritage railway and steam train rides throughout the day are included in the entrance price. Tickets can be booked online at www.eastsomersetrailway.com.
Anyone interested in attending with a display should contact [email protected] or through Facebook The Way We Were at East Somerset Railway.
