A road accident in Shepton Mallet involving an e-scooter rider has triggered a response from emergency services, including an air ambulance and the local police.

This incident occurred on the A37 in Shepton Mallet yesterday afternoon, leading to traffic diversions while the services attended the scene.

This event follows recent warnings from police regarding the increased regulation of e-scooter riders in Shepton Mallet. In the aftermath of the incident, police took the opportunity to remind the public about the legal limitations of e-scooter usage.

Riding e-scooters on public highways, including pavements and footpaths is illegal.

The legitimate use of these vehicles is currently confined to areas where official e-scooter trials are being conducted. Even in these cases, riders are required to hold a valid driving licence and are expected to use the road.

A representative from the Avon and Somerset Police's Mendip area policing team shared on social media, "The rider of an e-scooter was injured in this road accident on the A37 Shepton Mallet. The injured male required attention from Air Ambulance and traffic was diverted around the site. E-Scooters cannot legally be ridden on any public highway, including pavements and footpaths."
