Drainage improvements in Bruton

Improvements to the drainage system in Bruton town centre are taking place next week.

Works on the High Street are scheduled to run from Monday 27 January to Friday 31 January and include reconstruction of three gullies and repairs to the underground pipework.

Due to the need for deep excavations under the road it will be necessary to close the road 24/7 to keep the public and workforce safe.

Businesses will remain open as usual during the works and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

A suggested diversion route suitable for all vehicles can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks or will be clearly signposted on site. As with any road closure, drivers are free to find their own alternatives.

Somerset County Council looks after more than 4,170 miles of road and in 2018/19 invested £24.7m to keep the county moving, including filling 18,519 potholes and delivering 385 highway maintenance schemes ranging from drainage works to carriageway and footway resurfacing.
