Only two Somerset restaurants are included in the Michelin Guide for 2023 - and one of them is in Bruton.

Osip retained its one Michelin star on this year's guide, representing the county alongside Olive Tree in Bath.

Osip is a tiny, Michelin-starred restaurant owned and run by ex-head chef of London favourites Portland and Clipstone, Merlin Labron-Johnson.

Serving a refined line-up of farm-to-table food, the 22-cover restaurant works grows much of its own produce and works closely with local suppliers to source the rest for a predominantly vegetarian menu. A variety of tasting menus are on offer - lunch diners can choose between a four-course' menu du jour' or a six-course tasting menu, whilst dinner offers up a full nine-course taster and the six-course.

Osip has decided to make the tasting menus completely blind - you leave yourself in the hands of Labron-Johnson and his expert kitchen team here (though you get a lovely printed menu to take away with you afterwards).

The prestigious stars were unveiled at the Michelin Guide Ceremony Great Britain & Ireland Guide 2023 on Monday, March 27.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides said: "Great Britain & Ireland continues to impress with the sheer variety of its MICHELIN Stars.

"Whether diners are looking for somewhere formal or casual, historic or new, there is a MICHELIN Starred establishment for them. In every region of Great Britain and Ireland, you can now find hugely talented chefs calling out to gourmets with their exquisite and accomplished cuisine."

Describing Osip the guide said: "A thriving market town plays host to this elegant restaurant, which is owned by forward-thinking chef, Merlin Labron-Johnson, and run by a chatty and welcoming team, who are clearly passionate about its farm-to-table ethos.

"The set surprise menu is mostly plant-based, with almost all of the produce home-grown or locally sourced.

"Dishes are harmonious, with bold natural flavours and an effortlessly assured elegance. Wine pairings are organic and biodynamic."
