Arrest after weekend collision in Shepton Mallet

A 27-year-old man from London has appeared in court today after a police chase and collision in Shepton Mallet on Sunday afternoon.

Artur Makouski, of Morland Road, Walthamstow, Waltham Forest, is charged with one count each of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and going equipped for theft of a motor vehicle, driving while over the legal alcohol limit, failing to stop for police, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

The charges relate to an incident in which a car was involved in a collision on the A37 Whitstone Road, in Shepton Mallet, on Sunday 22 January at around 12pm.

 Officers were supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and dog unit in their response to the incident.

 A second man, aged 34, was arrested on suspicion of being conveyed in a stolen vehicle, theft by finding, aggravated vehicle taking, and being equipped to steal a motor vehicle. He has been released on police bail.
