The A371 has been closed near Shepton Mallet this morning (January 4) following a serious crash.

Just after 7am, Avon and Somerset Police were called to the "serious injury collision" near to the Bath and West Showground, and now the road has been closed.

It is shut from the junction with the B3081 Prestleigh Road into Evercreech, along to the crossroads with Easton Lane and Leighton Lane.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible, as despite traffic generally coping well, there are delays on the A37 near Shepton Mallet, at the Cannard's Grave Roundabout, and on roads around Evercreech.
