Somerset County Council's Highways team is due to carry out repairs on the A361 in the centre of Shepton Mallet next week, resulting in the road being closed to traffic.

From Monday (March 15), work commences on the crossroads where the A361 Paul Street and Commercial Road meets the High Street in Shepton Mallet, to carry out patching repairs to the road surface. The work is expected to be complete by Friday March 19.

The crossroads plus Paul Street and Commercial Road for 40 metres in each direction will be closed between 8am and 5pm to all traffic and a diversion will be in place.

Residents and pedestrians will continue to have access but to assist with the delivery of these works, the council has requested that no vehicles are parked on the road.

Residents are asked to liaise with the site foreman regarding access to properties within the site and essential deliveries. The team says it will do its best to minimise disruption for those living in the affected area.

Councillor John Woodman, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "Our commitment to ensuring the roads of Somerset are fit for purpose is vital for residents and business.

"It's also an important part of supporting the county's economic recovery.

"While it may cause disruption in the short term, the works in Shepton Mallet are essential. With the closures set for peak times, we encourage road users to plan ahead."
