Warmth, soup and support for Shepton this winter
By Sally Blackmore 28th Jan 2026
The Art Bank Café is delighted to announce funding from Somerset Community Foundation as part of this winter's Surviving Winter campaign, allowing us to introduce our "Warm Space, Hot Soup" initiative – offering even longer opening hours, hot food, and a safe, welcoming space for everyone in the community throughout the colder months.
Starting in December (w/c Monday 8th Dec.) we now open from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, while Saturday hours remain the same – 10am to 3pm. So whether you need somewhere to pop in after the school run, want a cosy spot to warm up on your way home, or just fancy a chat, our doors are open to all. Anyone in Shepton Mallet and the surrounding towns and villages is welcome to drop into The Art Bank Café, where you'll find warmth, company, and a hot bowl of soup, served with a slice of buttered bread and then pay what you can. There's no need to book, just come in, take a seat, and let us look after you.
This expansion is made possible by funding through Somerset Council's "Surviving Winter" campaign, which helps local organisations deliver practical, direct help in their communities. From food and energy vouchers to warm, welcoming spaces, the campaign is reaching those who need it most. Details on all available support can be found via the Somerset Council website or by phoning 0300 123 2224.
"We're so grateful for the support that allows us to keep our doors open and our soup pots bubbling," said Abby Young, Director of The Art Bank Café. "No one should feel alone or unsupported this winter. If you need warmth, food, or just a friendly chat, we're here for you."
