BBC Radio 4 Today Programme to host hustings in Wells and Mendip Hills

The BBC Radio 4 Today Programme is set to hold a hustings in the new Wells and Mendip Hills constituency on Tuesday, 11th June, as part of its coverage of the 2024 General Election campaign.

Voters in the area will have the opportunity to question some of the candidates standing for election.

The candidates for the seat are Meg Powell-Chandler (Conservative), Helen Hims (Reform UK), Abi McGuire (independent), Tessa Munt (Liberal Democrats), Joe Joseph (Labour) and Peter Welsh (Green Party).

However, the Independent candidate, Abi McGuire, has said that to date, she has not been invited to participate in the debate, which will be chaired by Today presenter Justin Webb.

The hustings will take place at Blackford Village Hall, near Wedmore, starting at 6pm. Attendance is limited to ticketholders, and voters in the Wells and Mendip Hills constituency can apply for free tickets by emailing [email protected].

Attendees will also be invited to submit questions for the candidates.

Listeners of the Today Programme can catch the highlights of the event on the show on 12th June.
