Students and teachers at Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet are celebrating the achievements of their students in what has been an exceptionally difficult year for all Year 11 students across the country.

Head teacher, Guy Swallow, said: "All of the staff here at Whitstone School, including myself, are incredibly proud of our students' exam results this year.

"There has been much upheaval due to the pandemic, particularly with the cancelling of the formal exams, and this has caused a huge amount of anxiety and uncertainty for our students.

"However, with the Government's recent decision to honour the grades awarded by teachers, we are happy that each of the students will have been given fair and accurate results.

"Each of these grades reflect the talent, dedication and hard work of each individual student, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved in such difficult circumstances."

Whilst the achievements of the year group as a whole are immensely satisfying, it is the individual successes and personal stories that gives staff members most pride.

Alistair Atkins, Jake Brooks, Aaron and Connor Hood, Emma Robertson, Ellis Taylor and Emma Wilkin all achieved at least one 9 grade with Isabelle Glass, Kian Kearn and Jake Khamis making exceptional progress during their two-year courses.

Mr Swallow has been Whitstone School's head teacher since January and is prioritising making progress in raising standards across the school.

He said: "I am incredibly proud to lead a staff group here which is truly outstanding, and it is thanks to their dedication, excellent teaching and guidance that this year group are equipped with the skills and determination to further their education or start them off on their chosen career path with confidence.

"We wish all of the students the very best for the future."

Whitstone School has approximately 550 students and staff are encouraged to help every student to achieve their own version of excellence.

If you are considering secondary school options for your Year 5 or 6 child, there will be an Open Event in October at Whitstone School.
