Sunrise Chinese Takeaway in Shepton Mallet will re-open this week after coronavirus shutdown
A popular Chinese takeaway in Shepton Mallet will re-open later this week after closing due to the coronavirus crisis.
Sunrise Chinese Takeaway in Commercial Road will be open again for takeaway orders on Friday (April 24) for limited hours at first and with measures in place to prevent any spread of coronavirus.
The takeaway will only be taking phone orders initially and using the window for food collection with contactless payment only, in order to see the two-metre social distancing observed.
Sunrise has been run by Cindy Lau and her husband Paul for more than 13 years and they are looking forward to opening the takeaway again.
Cindy said: "We wanted to keep the shop open, but due to the fact that two of our family members have asthma, we needed to close as we did not know what the situation was.
"At the moment, we would ask that there are not any walk-in orders at the moment please, we will open from 4.30pm to 9pm.
"However, the telephone line will open from 4pm so that we can prepare well before our promised time to collect.
"We will try to keep all the supplies on our menu at the moment, and hope we can keep this service in the coming weeks.
"I think takeaways in Shepton have been coping very well with the crisis, and we will be wearing masks to protect both ourselves and customers."
And Cindy had a positive message to send out to Shepton Mallet residents.
"It will be gone soon, we are all doing very well," she said.
