A Shepton Mallet police officer who kept driving for six weeks after failing her test will face a disciplinary panel.

PC Shannon Carnell received three points on her licence and a £100 fine after being challenged about her conduct in February.

A notice for her misconduct hearing next week says she placed other road users at risk on regular unsupervised trips to Keynsham Rugby Club when she failed to display L plates.

Avon and Somerset Police said the allegations relate to her driving to and from work at Shepton Mallet station.

The hearing notice says PC Carnell would have known she should have been supervised by a driver with more than three years' experience, and on a number of occasions allegedly lied to a colleague that a friend would be joining her.

She failed her driving test in December.

When under caution she claimed she had only driven once alone, and later said she had only done it "a couple of times".

PC Carnell is accused of breaching police standards for discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity. If proven they could amount to gross misconduct.

The hearing will be held at the Avon and Somerset Police HQ in Portishead on October 4.
