Mendip Rocks is a festival of events throughout October to celebrate the awe inspiring 450 million year old geology and landscape of the Mendip Hills.
Events include: Geo walks to learn and discover about the geology of the Mendips and the building stones used to make the towns of Shepton Mallet, Glastonbury, Wells and Frome.
Art Workshops at Somerset Earth Science Centre, fossil inspired fun for all, printing, stone carving and crochet!
Quarry Tours: Unique inside views of one of the biggest quarries in the south of England at Torr Works near Frome, discover how important the limestone rock is and why they quarry it at Batts Combe in Cheddar and find out about the exceptional Andesite rock at Stoke St Michael quarry. Limited places, age 5+ for minibus tours.
Unearthed: A Forum of Fossils, Fieldwork & Female Voices - a series of talks by female palaeontologists and geo scientists, revealing the amazing work they do at SESC in Stoke St Michael, includes tea and cake. Tickets £15/£5 students.
