Shepton leave it late to edge 3–2 cup thriller over Broadwalk

By Laura Linham 14th Oct 2025

Tom Trimble struck in the dying seconds to send Shepton Mallet into the next round of the Somerset County Premier Cup after a dramatic 3–2 home win over Mendip Broadwalk on Tuesday night.

The tie looked destined for extra time after a frantic second half, but Trimble had other ideas. With the clock ticking into the second minute of stoppage time, the sub pulled off a cool half-turn and curled a 15-yard winner into the far corner — sealing a deserved victory at the Playing Fields.

Broadwalk took the lead just before the half-hour when Rhys Hickory drilled home from the edge of the box. But Shepton levelled before the break through Ashton Shanley's thunderbolt free-kick from 30 yards that left keeper Ben Britton rooted.

Shanley turned provider on the hour, whipping in a set-piece for Conrad Peck to head home for 2–1. The lead lasted only moments as Mason Daggar hit back for the visitors with a fine angled drive past Dan Jackson.

Shepton pushed hard in the final stages. Jake Sloggett went close, Taelan Savage impressed at both ends, and Trimble saw an earlier header well saved. But with seconds left, Shanley picked out Snell down the right, who crossed low for Trimble to grab the glory.

Shanley took the Man of the Match honours, with Peck, Sloggett, Monty Burgess and Jay Sutherland also standing out. Attendance was 132.

Shepton will now face Wincanton Town away in the next round. Their next home league fixture is against Newquay on Saturday, 1 November (KO 3pm).

The Reserves are also in cup action that day, away to Chilcompton Sports.

The Under-18s lost 3–1 at Wellington on Tuesday, 21 October after a hard-fought match.

Meanwhile, midfielder Corey Stock has left the club to join Cribbs in search of more regular game time. The club thanked him for his efforts and welcomed Rushon Walker-Brown, a new signing from Frome who has previously played for Aston Villa and Bristol City.

Club events coming up:

• Bingo Night – Friday, 14 November, clubhouse, eyes down 7:30pm

• Christmas Party – Saturday, 20 December after the home fixture against Torpoint
