A-levels results day at Strode College

Strode College, which attracts many students from Shepton Mallet, is celebrating another year of outstanding A-level and vocational results.

For the eighth consecutive year, Strode students have exceeded expectations. The college continues to be placed in the top 10 per cent (DfE league tables) of schools and colleges nationally for the progress its students make.

More than 5,000 pothole complaints have been made in Somerset (Photo: Brett Jordan)

More than 5,000 complaints were made to Somerset County Council by residents and businesses in the county about potholes over the past 12 months, according to new Freedom of Information figures gathered by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The FSB's national report revealed that local authorities across the country receive a complaint to fix a pothole every 46 seconds and also showed that the South West had the fourth largest amount of complaints of any region in the country.

Shepton Mallet progressed to the next round of the FA Cup for the first time in several years after a 3-1 win in the Extra Preliminary Round against league rivals Cadbury Heath, with all the goals coming in an end-to-end first half.

The home side started brightly with Craig Loxton and Andy Martin going close from distance, and Jack Fillingham beating home keeper Oliver Jones, but not an alert defender who cleared the ball off the goal-line.
