Shortly after the crews from Shepton Mallet arrived and assessed the scene, the Special Rescue Team was returned en route, as their services were not required. Whilst the casualty had fallen, coming to rest at the base of quarry face, they were able to rescue them, working alongside Ambulance paramedics, onto a stretcher and then walking them out, down a footpath and to a place of safety. However, due to the location, terrain and nature of the rescue, crews were committed for some time, bringing the incident under control at 15:24hrs. Duty of care was left with the Ambulance Service.By Tim Lethaby

Over the weekend of the 17th August the ladies toilets in Collett Park, Shepton Mallet, were vandalised, causing the toilet facility to be closed while emergency repairs could be undertaken.
Shepton Mallet Town Council is aware that this closure caused an enormous inconvenience to those that rely on the public lavatories and is frustrated that acts of vandalism like this place a burden on public services.
