PCC Mark Shelford and Avon and Somerset Police are warning local people to take extra care when shopping online in the run up to Christmas.

Mendip district councillors paid their respects to the fallen at services of Remembrance across the area on Sunday.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of the city, towns and local rural communities as a reminder of the sacrifice of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Window Wanderland is running in Shepton Mallet from 25th – 28th November and houses businesses, shops and anyone with a window are invited to join in.

The idea is simple – decorate your windows with a design, picture, some fairy lights or an installation and leave your lights to be part of a magical night trail.

Small and medium size businesses in Somerset can boost their staff training for free thanks to a new £265,000 project being launched by Somerset County Council in partnership with the Dorset and Somerset Training Provider Network (DSTPN).

Contracts have just been signed with four training providers – Aspire Training, Bridgwater and Taunton College, Hair Academy South West, and Somerset Business Agency – to deliver Skill Up Springboard. It offers businesses in Somerset access to free short courses for employees who are over the age of 18 to improve their skills and potentially climb the career ladder.

As we all reflect today, Armistice Day, an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life, I'm sure everyone is looking forward to paying their respects at this year's Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade at the Cenotaph.

The service, led by the Royal British Legion, will begin at around 10:45, with the public asked to assemble from 10:30. The Town Council would like to take this chance to thank the Shepton Mallet Army Cadets, who are volunteering their time to complete a litter pick of the Cenotaph and the immediate surrounding area on Saturday November 13th.

A new Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) Joint Committee has met in Somerset to steer the move to a single unitary council for the county.

The two-hour public meeting was hosted by Mendip District Council at their offices in Shepton Mallet (5th November 2021).

Mendip District Council is encouraging residents who are struggling financially to come forward and talk.

The Council can support those with money worries and wants to reassure residents that they need not suffer in silence when help is out there.
