South West success for Shepton Mallet gymnasts

By Guest 16th Jul 2021

This weekend brought a spectacular start to 2020 with Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club's tumblers all securinf a place in the next round of the South West tumbling finals.

The club travelled to Dorset to compete in the first competition of the year, which was quite an emotional roller coaster for all gymnasts with lots of happy tears by the end of the day.

The youngest of the gymnasts was Calla Scott who proved that she was tough enough to tumble her way to sixth place out of a huge group of 25.

Calla is an energetic and hardworking young lady, and is determined to train hard for the next round.

Next up was Darcie Snaith. Darcie scored excellent on execution and with her elegance, power and determination she took home a silver medal.

In the afternoon Millie Rood kept up the club's brilliant level of tumbling with a well-deserved gold medal.

Millie has moved up a level this year and is once again South West tumbling champion for the second year in a row.

All three gymnasts will be training extra hard over the coming weeks which includes travelling out of the area with their coach Clare.

The club is still looking for a unit in Shepton Mallet so gymnasts can train locally. If anyone knows of a unit in Shepton Mallet, email the club at [email protected].
