Evercreech community comes together to help others this Christmas

This year, the people of Evercreech chose to give back a little something the night their Community Christmas Tree was set to be turned on.

Villager Barry O'Leary, said: "I was delighted when Evercreech had its first Community Tree in 2016.

Zahid Saeed, an award-winning orthopaedic surgeon who has joined Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre. His appointment brings the total number of orthopaedic surgeons at the hospital to eight.

Temporary traffic lights will return to the Commercial Road Roundabout in Shepton Mallet this week, just a few weeks after a previous set were removed.

Resurfacing work finished at the roundabout just a handful of weeks ago, but from Friday December 13 to December 17 multi-way lights will return there.

Resident describes moment earthquake was felt near Shepton Mallet

A local resident has described the feeling when a 3.2-magnitude earthquake was felt near Shepton Mallet last night.

The British Geological Survey has confirmed that the epicentre of the quake was Huntworth, near Bridgwater, though there was also a 4.5-magnitude quake measured at Beaminster in Dorset.

Evercreech-based patient transport service is recruiting

Working in partnership with its NHS Trust Partners, Evercreech-based E-zec delivers a free, non-emergency transport service for eligible patients in Somerset.

It is a nationwide company, employing more than 1,400 road and office personnel, however its local contract has a team of more than 70 people who are either based at either Evercreech or Wellington.

Tickets go on sale for South West Comic Con and Gaming Festival near Shepton Mallet

Tickets have gone on sale for the South West Comic Con and Gaming Festival, which is being held at the Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, in June next year.

The showground is a new venue for the event, which will run from 10am to 4pm on Saturday June 6.

Details of nine homes being built in Shepton Mallet are approved

Mendip planners have approved the appearance, landscaping, layout and scale of nine homes that are going to be built in Shepton Mallet.

A planning application for approval of reserved matters following outline approval 2018/1476/OTS for the erection of nine dwellings and associated access at Shireways, Cannard's Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, was submitted by Mr Mackenzie, and the thumbs up have now been given by Mendip District Council.
