The Lantern Parade has been postponed

It is with great regret that the organisers must postpone the 10th Shepton Mallet Lantern Parade owing to adverse weather, which has meant that one band is trapped in Taunton and the other are unable to play and lead the parade in the rain.

Rather than struggle on with a damp and silent parade, the committee has decided to postpone the parade until early in the new year and will announce the new parade date soon.

Shepton Mallet Library is set to keep its town centre location and be developed as a community hub, following lots of hard work and community contributions.

Somerset County Council expects to enter into a new lease on the current site and continue to work with the local Library Friends Group, Shepton Mallete Town Council and others to create a community hub as part of the regeneration of the Market Place.

Pillars 501 Shepton Mallet

Residents of Shepton Mallet and beyond have a stylish new bar to enjoy in the form of Pillars 501 which has opened right at the heart of the town in the Market Place.

With the help of Luxe and Twine Interiors - also based in Shepton Mallet - the building has been transformed into a chic, art deco-style venue and forms part of a regeneration project taking place in Shepton Mallet with many new retail outlets now trading in the area.

Shepton Mallet residents will see a big change to their rubbish collections from June 2020 – though some areas of the county must wait two years to see the benefit.

The Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) is preparing to roll out its Recycle More programme, which will allow a wider range of materials to be collected at the kerbside on a weekly basis.
